By the beginning of my 10th grade year, I had developed many abilities. And I had made and lost many friends and girlfriends.
Walking home from school one day, it occurred to me that, as I walked in the summer heat, that walking was inefficient and ridiculous.
I looked around and stepped into the forest next to the roadway. I walked a few feet into it, and found an opening in the treetops.
I jumped a few times, looking straight up, until finally I didnt come back down. I was hovering a few feet from the ground.
I turned up my walkman to Linkin Park's "Papercuts", stuffed it into the built-in holder in my backpack, and took off into the air.
I did this for several days in a row, until it dawned on me one day that, even for living near an Air Force Base, there were a lot of planes in the air.
I opened my mind to the feelings around me and got the sense that I was being tracked as I flew through the air.
When I got home I did some internet research and found out that the FAA regulates all flying craft in the air at any time, and all aircraft of any kind must be registered and their path known to the FAA, so that planes dont crash into each other and such.
Important lesson #3 "Flying, however fun, efficient, and cool, is not regulated by the FAA and should be avoided at all costs."
